Unfortunately, we have been hit very hard by the recent flooding in Cumbria. Our outdoor area is now completely underwater!
Thankfully, there have been no casualties and all of our animals have access to safe (and dry!) refuge. However, our free ranging animals have been particularly badly affected by the incident. We need to start work to elevate all of our existing outdoor paths right away, so that if this level of flooding occurs again, they will still be able to travel around the zoo and access important feeding and nesting areas. As a charity, reliant entirely upon the money brought in by our visitors, we do run to a very strict budget and these works are expected to be rather costly!
We have set up a crowdfunding appeal on JustGiving to help us raise enough money to get the work underway when the water finally recedes. Christmas is almost upon us, but if you do have any spare money and would like to make a donation to help us out, we would be extremely grateful.
